I stand corrected everyone! Blackberries do grow here in the Philippines after all. And I'm not talking about the colder parts either. The photo you see up top is a that of a blackberry bush in a friend's garden in sweltering Metro Manila! :-) Yup, you better believe it.
The bush is not only thriving but is flourishing so much that my friend is able to gather a bowl of sweet and juicy blackberries every single day for months on end!

I was graciously offered some blackberry seedlings which I unabashedly accepted! I will keep you guys posted as soon as I have the seedlings :)
Hi! I stumbled on your blogsite. I actually was googling for a good lechon recipe.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, these blackberries are interesting! Where did your friend get the plant? I'd love to have this in my garden as well.
Thanks for sharing! : )
Hi! Thanks for dropping by :) My friend purchased the seedlings from a farm in Tagaytay though she can no longer recall the name :(
Deletehow exciting!!! let us know about the seedlings later. how great is it that your friend has a garden like that IN MANILA! way cool!
ReplyDeleteSo, blackberries can be grown in the Philippines. Good to know there are berry choices aside from duhat and aratelis. I :
ReplyDeleteT and I dream lo-tech, super cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks! When I make a trip to Tagaytay, I'll definitely ask around for that berries seedling! : )
ReplyDeleteOkay, tell me if you find the source! :)
DeleteI came to your blog via 1784 (Alex's blog) and was surprised to see your current post. I too didn't know that blackberries can grow locally. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSolitude Rising, thanks for dropping by! As for the local blackberries, amazing isn't it??
DeleteThose look juicy! They're actually mullberries; there's one tree in Pedro Gil area and apparently people there don't know the berries are edible since no one bothers to pick them.
ReplyDeleteBam, that's very interesting to know! So now I'm curious. How are mullberries different from blackberries aside from the fact that silkworms prefer the former? Hmmmm...google google google...
ReplyDeleteWow! I didn't know this either. Let us know how yours turn out!
ReplyDeleteI've had raspberries freshly picked from a tree in Banawe... ;-)
